Two 4,5 howitzers, he says, were being used. They were placed in position on the strip of ground between the beach and the road. They were firing at targets on the hillside, and were within fifty yards of the road. Motor-cars wore frequently passing, and if a premature explosion had occurred, elther as the result of accident or miscalculation, the consequences might have been extremely sari. ous for people in these vehicles.
