DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION SEVERS LONG SERVICE

Bovering an association with the Department Hongkong Education

that has lasted since February 24, 1204, Mr. G. P. de Martin. Direc tom of Education, will retire ол long service furlough to-day, pro- paratory to bis retirement from the Department.

Mr. do Martin, was born on December 31st, 1874. He is a B.A. of Trinity College, Dublin, and since his arrival in Hongkong in 1904, has been connected with the Education Department of tho Colony.

Appointed an Assistant Master, Mr. Martin arrived in the Colony on February 24th, 1904. He was promoted Senior Assistant Master at Queen's College in 1910, and from November 20th, 1913, to De- cember 3rd, 1914, was Acting Ins- pector of English Schools. During the period of the Great War he was seconded to the Portal Censor's Offoe, and on January 28th, WAD acting Registrar of the Hongkong University.

In 1920 Mr. Martin was promo- ted n First Class Assistant Bina- tor, his new appointment being colncident with the conformant on him, in the Now Year's List, of the honour of being a Member
