THE WORLD OF WOMEN
Paris, Dec-You cannot have a beautiful dress without that most important of all quailities-SUP- pleness. There has been a tendency on the part of women, born of the
desire to acquire a slim silhouette, to indulge ก exaggeration, sartorially speaking, of course.
You have surely noticed how certain women cling stubbornly to

Sheath Alone Insufficient
It is true that.one of the char- actéristles of the mode for some time has been to use this sheath. theme to convey an impression of slimness. A shenth, however, is insuficient, to say the least, oh a normal figure, and sometimes even achieves the contrary effect. In any crise, whatever may be the final result of the sheath theme, it can never have but a very dis- tant acquaintance with a really high-class model. It only by u aubtle combining of various effects that the slim line can be achieved, and a narrow silhouette is beauti- ful only when a certain amount of fullness is brought in play.
This is what constitutes the full- ness theme on which every style has an influence as each succed- ing season comes along. As a matter of fact, the disposition, or placing, of fullness alone has been at times to constitute a style in it- self.
This quality of case and full- ness is manifest in the most sim- ple dresses and you will find that even the most tailored gown shows Hurt of fullness without which it would be a mere garment; certainly not a creation.
Subtle Touches Count
The same principle of the "light" touch is applied in all ente- gories of dress. Certain trimmings have a tendency to giving the im- pression of lightness, but they are not what I have in mind.
I con- sider them insufficient and have always believed that a dress must possess that element of lightness dress shown here, for example, menta it inspires. But these treat- and casiness in itself. White crepo is used by Jean Patou for this graceful even- ing ensemble. The cape effect, which is soft in its cowl neck and draped front, is edged with sablé, making it very effective.
