ANOTHER "STORM IN

OXFORD"

A crowd of Oxford undergrad- uates recently threw Mr. Tangye Lean editor of the undergraduate journal, Isis, into the River Cherwell.

There has been a lot of dis- cussion in Oxford about Mr. Lean's recently published novel, "Storm in Oxford," which deals withi some of the more con- troversial aspects of University life.

A Disgusting ‘Insult"

On recent afternoon he was running round the Christ Church meadows with a friend when number of undergraduates aud- denly blocked his path. What followed is best described in his own words:

'As I was rounding a bend I saw about a dozen stalwart under- raduates, some of them wearing the colours of my college (Univer alty), confronting mo. I asked hem what they wanted and they |shouted "You are the swine who grote "Storm in Oxford." It is a disgusting Insult."

*Then they not upon my friend and myself. We put up as good a fight as possible. I knockod over two men and somewhere in Oxford there must be an under- graduate with a very black eye. However, we were overpowered and I was slung into the river. I managed to swim ashore, but the water was freezing cold. I con- sider it a most unfortunate act of hooliganism.”*

It Is of interest to note that in the novel the hero's brother is thrown into the Cherwell by the captain of bopta.

Anonymous Threats

Mr. Lean added that some athle tic members of his colloge had been particularly angered by the warm reception the book has To- colved from the Pross. In hia first year his rooms were several times smashed up on account of hia attitdue to colloge games. Following on the publication of "Storm in Oxford" he had received (anonymous letters threatening per- [sonal violence. Ho did not, how-
