In the King's Bench Division. Miss Constantia Wickateed, of Nut- ford-place, Marble Arch, W., sued Major V. D. B. Cooper, of Blakeney, Gloucestershire, for $124. balance of fees duo in respect of his daughter Ruth, who, when 18, did not return to the school conducted by plaintiff near Paris.

Major Cooper pleaded that he was Justifled in withdrawing hia daughter, as Miss Wicksteed had not exorcised proper supervision over the girls, particularly when they went to Paris.

Miss Wicksteed replied that the supervision was ample and ex- cellent. When the girls went into | París they were, she said. niwaya accompanied by a mistress, and if they were going to meet friends the mistress handed them over when they met.

Mr. Justice McCardio, in giving judgment for Miss Wicksteed for £92 148. 2d. and costs, said he would nesome that Mise Cooper had, an her father had stated, led a sheltered life. Before going to Paris she was at an English public school.

Harm of ignorance

"My own view is that to keep girls In ignorance does not help and may do harm. I think it is better for girls of that age to have knowledge of the world and of social evils, and knowledge of sexual risks. To shelter a girl too much is an ill preparation for the life she may have to lead when she grown older and when she has to visit technical and art schools and other Institutions of learning."

In the present case, he continued, the allegations came to this: There was a suggestion that one girl at the school collected the photographs of cinema atars of the male sex. Mias Wicksteed at once stopped this proclivity. Another went out from time to time by herself, but her parents had allowed it.

Then it was said that a third girl had received a letter from a young Frenchman asking her to luncheon with him in Paris and that she went out on the day he indicated. That incident depended on hearsay. It was impossible to treat girls of their age as though they were in- fants three years olil.

Major Cooper, he added, did not make the slightest imputation against the moral character of any girl at the school.

Hia Lordship was satisfied that reasonable care and supervision of the girls had been exercised, that Miss Wicksteed was a woman of the highest character and ability, and that Major Cooper was not entitled to remove his daughter) without notice.
