DISTRICT WATCHMAN SENT TO PRISON
A District The story of how Watchman attached to the Secre- tariat of Chinese Affairs suppic- mented his income with the carn- ings of prostitutes, was related at the Central Magistracy yesterday afternoon, when Le Fang was charged with living on the proceeds of prostitution. Appearing with him in the dock was Ip Look, a woman from Shanghai, who in described as his mistress and who answered a separate charge of un- lawfully exercising control, direc- tion and influence over Chan Ho and Lau Mal-lin in such a manner As to compel them to be prostitutes.
The спас for the prosecution, conducted by Det. Inspector Shaf- tain, was that the watchman with his mistress secured an apartment) at No. 4, Pak Chee Lane, into which ho then installed three young girls part on and thereafter lived in their immoral earnings.
Girls Ran Away.
In June last two of the girls ran away to Macao, but returned to Hongkong after a lapse of several months. In some way, Lo Pang got to know of their whereabouts, and it is believed when he visited) them at the Nathan Hotel on Octo- ber 23 last, it was with the object of compelling their return to the address at Pak Chee Lane.
Apparently the proposition was viewed with diafavour by the girls, who then had recourse to a Police whistle and Police protection."
Taken to Station,
The matter was investigated at the Yaumati Police Station, this resulting in a decision by the Ins- rector on duty to lock up the watch
man..
com-
A Chinese detective stated that while escorting Lo Pang and Yip Look to the Central Police Station he heard the one warn the other to clear all the inmates out from the Pak
address.
