There is a popular impression that one should not open the bidding in fourth position except with a very strong hand. Many experts formerly held that view, but most of them have now ahan- doned it in favour of lighter fourth hand bids.

Limaasel, Oct. 15. The appeal of Commander Sutton, of H.M.S. Resource, against the Bentence of six months' imprison- ment for the manslaughter of the proprietor of a native hotel here on October 5, has been dismissed.
