INVALID'S DASH HOME
SPECIAL TRAIN TO
LINER
Mr. J. W. Johnson, a wealthy American, who became seriously ill when on holiday in Scotland, char- tered a special train of three coaches and made an all-night dash to catch the White Star -Majestic, which sailed from South- ampton on Sept. 1, for New York.
liner
Mr. Johnson, who was touring with his wife and daughter, was taken ill at Strathpeffer, in Rogs. shire. In spite of his condition he demanded that arrangements should be made for him to roturn to America by the first ship leaving England
His doctors pointed out that tho strain might prove too much for him, but Mr. Johnson insisted.
He was accompanied by his wife, daughter, a nurse and a doctor to Southampton, and was carried ou board the Majestic, where he was placed in the care of the ship's sur- geon.
FAIRIES, FILMS AND EYEBROWS
*SUBJECTS SCIENCE
WILL DISCUSS
Were fairios an actual race of
men?
That is one of the fascinating subjects discussed in the sectional transactions of the British Asso- ciation at York.
Belief in fairica is still prevalent in many parts; of the Brkish Isles, and theories have been advanced that tales and legends of the doings of the "little folks," the Leprechauns, pixies and brownies, may be traditional memories of earlier pygmy peoples who disap- peared before the advancing civili- sation of the late-comers of Bri- tain.
The scientists at York talk of many things-of "cabbages and kings;" of fairies, films and cricket bata; of man's beginnings and destiny, and even of such subjects as the variation of his eyebrows and eyelashes, and fashion cycles.
