It sounds highly fantastic-that a message typed on a telephone circuit at one end of the city should bo faithfully reproduced in another | office_at_the_other end—but a re- prusentative of the Prosa áttend a démonstration at the office of the Hongkong Tolophone Company yesterday, and saw it done.

Everything seemed so simple. A smiling typist sat down at na in- strument resembling an ordinary typewriter, and with a standard keyboard. The teleprinter was connected through a resistanco equalling a four inilo circuit to an- other teleprinter, en éxact duplicate of the first. As an official of the Telephone Company dictated, the girl's fingers twinkled over the key- board, and an exact facsimile of her work appeared simultaneously on both typewriters, As the carrier came to the end of the margin, she pressed a key, and both carriers ilashed back to zero agalu.

It seemed all so uncanny.

One could visualise the ascond type- writer on a desk in an office miles away. With robot like precision it clicks into action at the call from a far-away duplicate, automatically printa its message, and shuts down three-quarters of a minute after the completion of the circuit.
