COMPANY MEETING

BRIGHT FUTURE FOR A

LOCAL CONCERN

The first annual General meeting of the China Agricultural Development Company, Limited, was held at the officon of the company, No. B Des Vocux Road Central, on Tuesday last. There were present Mr. L Dowdali, Chairman of Directors, Mosars. C. Champkin, W. J. Hansen and F. M. Ellir, Directors, and shareholders re- presenting 6,271 shares.

The notice calling the meeting was read and the minutes of the last general meeting were read and passed, The Chairman, addressing the moot ing, eald:

Ladies and Gentlemen, before put- ting the report and balance sheet before the meeting I will give you a report on the progress which we have made in the first teu and a half months of working.

The total revenue expenditure for this period was $33,094.67. In view

Money-Back Promise.

Most of our sales were made under the agreement that if they were not Batisfactory they could be returned and the money would be refunded. The fact that we have been paid and have received many 'repeat orders is convincing evidence that we have a very bright future baforo us which is limited only by our ability to finance it.

The question was taken up with the Postmaster General and, as a result, the $806 has since been transferred to Revenue.

Wo have made many cash sales and the fact that we were able to do ao speaks vory well for the name our Chop has established for itself. The Chloeso farmer does not buy fertill- zers on trust.

market and of the profits to be made in mixed fertilizers in Chinn this amount must be considered very small. If this expenditure is compared with the money spent in introducing their products by any of the other fertilizer companies

doing now millions of dollars worth of business in China, it will be seen to be very small indeed. If, on the other hand, the results which we have obtained through this exponuntton and a half say sale in first months of business of nearly $31,000 worth of our Complete Mixed Fer tilizers, is considered, we are bound to admit that thene, results are gratify ing.

SUCCESS

Need for Mixed FertiBzer.

The pioneers in the chemical fertilizer business in China spent million in advertising and pro- paganda work and it was suverai years before they were able to gain any footing at all. Our remarkable attributable to the fact that Complete Mixed Fertilizers are sential to the success of agriculture In China and they have not hitherto been available to the mass of Chinese farmers. The onl chemical fertilizer used to any large extent in China is sulphate of ammonia, which fe im- ported. The large Importers of this Produce know and freely admit that Complete Mixel Fertilizer is superior for the needs of the Chlaure farmer and must in the near future come to be extensively used.

HD

This is emphatically confirmed by Mr. Fung, Director of Agriculture at Lingaani University, and by Professor Reisner of the Nanking Agricultural College.

The amount of fertilizers imported Into China

runs into very large figures. The sulphate of ammania alone imported in 1030 amounted to nearly three million pleula as against little more than a quarter of a million piculs in 1924. This will give Home idea of the rapid growth of the busi- ness. And yet, large as these figures are, they represent only about one per cent. of the actual needs of the country.

America, when compared with China, may be considered virtually a virgin country, having been cultivated for only some 200 to 300° yours да compared with 4,089 or more years of intensive agriculture in China. And yet we find that the consumption of fertilizers in the United States in 1936 amounted to 8,250,000 tons. or this largo Linount seventy- live per cint, was in the form of com- plete mixed fertilizora.

We have suppiled to the Empire Day Fair Committee a large number of samples and pamphlets for use in demonstration and Instructiona to farmors which they are about to carry out in the Now Territories. This is likely to bring us in some good business.

The remaining advances are of a routine nature and call for no comment..

A very interesting enquiry for prices and particulars of our Mixed Fertilizers and Phosphatic Guano was received recently. The enquiry was replied to and the matter is being followed
