HARD COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR HONGKONG

CHATTER

A NEW ERA DAWNS

SEASON OF GREAT PROMISE OPENS TO-DAY

LAST LOOK ROUND

[By "BULLY-OFF"]

po-morrow is the opening day of the Mamak Tournament and of a new era in the annals of hockey in the Colony, The teams concerned have been hurd nt practice during the past week для, ав a result, the matches should be productive of a high standard of hockey. The apposing factions will be the Police and the German Club at Caroline Hill at 3 p.m., H.M.S. Phoenix and St. Andrew's on the Marina ground at 2.30 pm and the Incognitos and the R.AS.C., the U.S.R.C. ground at 4.30 p.m. and of these three THE match should be the faat-named. Here the chances of victory are slightly in favour of the Civilians but I have no doubt that the R.A.S.C., if they continue the form shown recently, will not permit their opponents to have everything their own way.

A forecast of the Club's team

S. V. Gittins won the Colony's 100 yards swimming championship at the V.R.C bath yesterday when he beat W. Lawrence by a yard after one of the most thrilling races on record.

Gittins used spleedid judgment to overcome the strong challenge offered by Lawrence and E.B. da Roza, and swum one of the Onest raees of his career.
