As foreshadowed in the Telegraph on Monday, a re- spite of the death sentence passed upon Cheng Kwok- yau, convicted of procuring the murder of George Fung, has been granted by the Governor-in-Council,

We were officially informed this morning that tho application of the defonce was considered by the Executive Council in session yesterday and it was decided to grant a respite of three months.

This is considered sufficient time for the formalities connected with the application for special leave to appeal to the Privy Council*tó to be completed.

In the event of the application being granted, a further respite will be granted until the result of the appeal is known.

The deience is now busily en- gaged preparing the papers for presentation to the Judicial Com- mittee of the Privy Council. It is anticipated that this task will take" a month.
