Newport, R.L., Aug. 20. Ellsworth Vines, Innky Callfor- nia youth, to-day won the New- port Casino invitational tennis tournament championship when

he defented a fellow-member of the American Davis Cup team, Wil- mer Allison. in three acts.

Vines found no great difficulty in disposing of his rival, who hails from Austin, Texas.

The scores were, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Vines was favoured all along to win the 16th championship.

The No. 1 American player reached the final bracket afzer halting the mad rush of Davey Jones of New York, who was easi ly the sensation of the tourna- iment.

Vines won from Jones yester- day after a hard struggle in five sets, 3-6, 10-12, 6-3, 6-2, 0-4. It looked almost as though Jones was the master when he took the first two sets.
