GOVERNMENT QUITE CONFIDENT

THE MONARCHIST RISING IN MADRID HAS BEEN SUPPRESSED BUT THE CHIEF OF THE CIVIL GUARD IN SEVILLE IS LEADING A REVOLT IN THE SOUTH WHICH APPEARS TO BE SPREADING THROUGH ANDALUSIA. IT IS RE- PORTED THAT HE HAS THE SUPPORT OF THE GARRISONS AT SEVILLE AND JEREZ.

It was officially announced in Madrid yesterday after- noon that the rising in Seville has been suppressed and that order had been restored in Jerez, but the announce- ment appears to have been distinctly premature. Troops are being rushed to the storm centre from several points.

RESIGNATIONS MAY BE ACCEPTED

(Telegraph Special.)

Shanghai, Aug. 11. The impression is growing that Mr. Wang Ching-wei's resignation of the Premier- ship will be accepted, al- though the final outcome of the political crisis is still ex- tremely doubtful.

It is learned from

a reliable source this morning that, Marshal Chiang Kai-shek left Han- kow yesterday for Kuling, for a personal conference with Mr. Lin Son, the President of the State Council, over the question of Mr. Wang Ching-wel's resignation.

It is also understood that Chiang Kai-shek has sent a long telegram to Mr. Wang Ching-wel assuring him that he (Chiang) will hold himself responsible for the Man- churian issue and that he would start his preparations after the. extermination

the bandit menace in the Central China provinces,

Chow Keng-shen, the repre- sentative of Chiang Kai-shek. arrived in Shanghai this morning to present an important letter from Chiang to Wang Ching-wei,

"NOT IN."

Cheng Chun-ming, Chu Chia-hun and Chu Pei-teh also arrived in Shanghai from Nanking this morn- ing, but up to the present none of the visitors has succeeded in locating Mr. Wang Ching-wei, who is seeking to avoid personal inter- views.

Well-informed circles predict that the Government will eventual- ly accept the resignation of Wang Ching-wei and also that of Marshal Chung Hsuch-liang.

It is Intimated that either General Ho Ying-ching, Chiang's second-in-command and trusted licutenant, or Chu Pei-teh will be placed in command

in North China, with General Yu Isuch- chung as Garrison Commander of Peking and Tientsin

TSAI YUAN-PEI.

As to the candidate for the Pre- sidency of the Executive Yuan, in the event of the acceptance of Wang Ching-wei's resignation, Dr. Tani Yuan-pei has been mentioned the most hopeful one.
