NINETEENTH ARMY IN DEMAND.

PRIITIONED TO REMAIN IN SHANGHAI

Shanghai, May 30, Arrangements for the with- drawal of all the soldiers of the Nineteenth Route Army for Kiangai and Fukion from Shanghai have been made by officers of the famous army, and according tu their commanding officer, General Chiang Kwang-nal, numerous pet!- tions from leading Chinese public organisations have been received demanding the continued station- ing of the army in Shanghai and along the Shanghal-Nanking Rail-

way.

General Chiang said that he was greatly impressed by the sincere attitude of the Shanghai residents, but considered it imperative to abey the Nanking instructions to pro- ceed to Fukfan, where the serious * Communist uprisings are demand- ing the keen attention of the au- thorities.

The Sixth Nanking Squadron of military aeroplanes and 120 aviator will command 11 bombing aeroplanes for Fuklon, travelling with the 19th Route Army,

The General Labour Association of Shanghai has petitioned the Gov- ernment demanding the presence in Shanghal of the 19th Route Army na long as the Manchurian problem remains unsettled. The petition denounces the foreign suggestion for the organisation of an

inter-

national free city in the Shanglini and Woomung regions.
