A NON-STOP ENDEAVOUR

New York, May 20.

With comparatively little preparation and publicity, Mrs. Putnam, the wife of the well-known, American publisher, better known by her maiden name. Amelia Earheart, took off to-day on a flight across the Atlantic.

Mrs. Putnam, the heroine of a dramatic flight across the Big Pond in 1928, giving her the distinction of being the first woman to fly the Atlantic, took off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, to-day and an- nounced that she is seeking to fly to Paris non-stop.

The famous airwoman, who has lately been demon- strating the possibilities of the auto-giro-crashing with slight injuries on one occasion is using an ordinary machine for the daring flight, and she is fly ing unaccompanied.

It is announced, that the American Atlantic Flect, which is at present in the Pacific, will remain there until October 1st.

The announcement of the order, the чо considerably extending stay of the fleet in the Pacific, has į aroused much speculation.
