A scheme to revolutionlso the marketing of meat, which was de- scribed as "secret" and which, it was stated, officials of the Minis. try of Agriculture were endea. vauring to force upon the farmoru of the country, was discussed at the annual conference of the National Federation of Mont Traders' Associations at Harro- xate.

Quota Or Tariff.

The scheme, which was to b worked in conjunction with quota or tariff, or a quota and tariff, on imported cattle ¡ment, proposed:

(1) All cattle to be graded upon arrival at markets.

(2) Cattle to be sold by auction and grade, the Central Commis- sion Axing minimum prices cording to grades. The auctioneers or dealers to deduct from proceeds a levy, to be for- warded to the Commission, by which all expenses would be met.

(3) All producers of stock to report to their local auctioneer their holdings of stock, and give approximate dates when such cattle would be ready. for the market, all such figures to be for- warded would instruct local com munitees regarding demanda" of markets.

Alderman Knight declared that the inauguration of such a scheme must mean the end of the in- dividual craft tradesman.
