NOTES SUPPLIED BY THE THEATRES

One picture that has caused more casting troubles than any other film produced since the advent of talking pictures is "Over the Hill," which opens on Sunday at the King's Thea- tre. The key character of the story is "Ma" Shelby, mother of the brood around whom the plot revolves. Call- ing for an actress equipped to enact both a woman in her prime and an old lady in her declining years, it re- quired one who was a mistress of her Art.

Realising the enormity of the task of finding such a person, Mr. Win- field Sheehan, Fox Vice President and General Manager in charge of produc- tion, took it upon himself to find this artist. But he soon reached the point of despair when test after teat avalled him nothing. It

then that Mr. Sheehan happened to recall an artist who had retired from the screen some twelve years ago, a star,. who had abandoned brilliant m career for the more important carcer of motherhood.
