One wash might ruin those
expensive stockings
BUT YOU TAKE NO RISKS WITH LUX!
You can't try new soaps without
running the grave risk of spoiling the things you wash, It is too late to be sorry after the damage is done. Too often just ONE wash will fade colours, make silks yellow, and shrink woollen garments alarmingly.
You have to pay so much for silk stockings and pretty lingerie, that it is sheer extravagance to risk washing them in any ordinary soap. Especially when you know for certain that they will be safe in LUX.
:
But do make sure that it IS Lux: Nothing else is quite so safe. Other soap flakes may LOOK pure, and still contain just sufficient harmful alkali to fade and destroy an expensive

LORD LLOYD WARNS GOVERNMENT
DEMANDS OF NEXT BUDGET
Grave warning to the Govern- ment regarding the financial future of the country was offered by Lord Lloyd at a meeting of the Ken- sington Conservative Association.
Lord Lloyd prophesied a finan- ein emergency worse than that which we have been tided over unless the Government can elect drastic reruction in Budget ex- penditure for the next financial year.
"Unless the Government of to- day can pull off at least £150,000.- 000 from the next Budget expendi

passed through. Let us stop spending at home and start governing niroud, That is a good slogan."
The spirit of the slogan ran throughout a speech typical at once of the speaker and embodying his broad experivove of the Empire.
"We have nominally balanced our Budget," he said, "but while we have done so nominally, in fact we have have done nothing of the kind. So long as we are living on capital and puiting the capital of the country to revenue purposes, we are doing what in our private life would lead to early ruin.
" we have not the foresight to cul down our expenditure in time, we shall meet with very early and grave disaster. It will be absolutely impossible for the country to repeat the efforts made by the taxpayer this year.
"The continuance of the present rate of taxation next year cannot possibly produce the same amount at revenue as it has done this year. The only way to salvation Bes in drastic and enormous reduction in cour anal expenditure. Until we make it a prime purpose to cut down and clean out our nd- ministration, there is no hope for this country.
"I look tu this situation not iny optimistic vein. The figures dur Budget and of our expen- diture ought to fill un with the greatest arm.**
Polat by point Lord Lloyd illustrated his contentions with facts and figures. He pointed out The plague spot in our expendi ture, which had been the source of all but ruination in the past and which treatened destitution for the future.
"The expenditure on Civil Ser- vien alone from 1931 to 1932 was close o £17,000,000," he said. The total of our Bulget for the year before the war was only £197,000,000.**
He dilated on the recklessness of unproductive spending on the social services. The economies in Civil Service expenditure, he said, would be irksome. even harsh. for those who were direct- ly affected, but their hardshipss would result in the greater wef- Fare of the country as a whole.
Lord Lloyd then turned to the rake's

whole."
Sanity in Economies.
ገ
The one patch of optimism in his speech was contained in reference to the fact that world ennditions generally showed signs of becoming easier, even though in India and China 800 million people had cctised to buy British Foods.
"We have balanced our Budget," concluded Lord Lloyd. "We have " got rid of Free Trade, thank God. The struggle of thirty years to et sanity back into economics has at last triumphed."
