Original Suit Bids of One.

An original suit bid of one shows at lenst a biddable. four-card suit and two and one-half quick tricks or defensive tricks,

When holding a biddable four- card suit and a five-card sult, the four-card sult is bid before the five, The five-card suit is shown on the second round.

When holding two biddable four- card suits, the higher ranking ault is bid first.

When holding a six-card and a five-card suit, the six-card suit la bid first, and the five card suit shown on the second round. On the third round of, bidding, rebid the six-card suit.

Any five-card suit headed by queen jack. 10.

Five-card suits headed by queen 10 or king jack at times must be bld but should not be rebid unless supported by partner,

When your hand contains two and one-half quick tricks and the suit is as wenk as the last suit men- tioned above, you sometimes have a batter no trump bid. However, if your hand contains a biddable four- card suit and one of these weak five-card suits, the four-card suit le shown on the first round of bidding and the five-card suit on the second round.

Four-card suits to be biddable should be headed by at least ace queen or ACO jack 9. Generally when bolding o four-card sult na weak as acé jack 9 and no biddable five-card suit, you have a better no trump bid. However, if you hold a biddable five-card suit and a four- card suit headed by at least ace Jack 9, show the four-card silt on the first round of bidding.

DARTMOOR TRIAL --

JUDGE MAKES SURPRISE VISIT TO PRISON

A feature trial to-day

London, Apr. 29. of the Princetown was the cross- examiration of Mr. Roberts, | Governor of Dartmoor at the time of the January riots, by one of the 30 accused convicts who was defending himself.

"You don't do it very fairly," said Mr. Justice Finlay, after a series of well-framed questions had been put.

Mr. Roberts, the ex-Governor, expressed the view that the frus- trallon of numerous attempts at escape was the real cause of the mutiny, and related an occasion when resentment was exhibited at his refusal to allow men who would not go to church to go to n Concert.

The Home Office later decided that they should be permitted to igo.

The Judge paid a surprise vialt to the prison before the court aut, asked many questions, and was interested in the prisoners in solitary confinement. Reuter's
