MR. P.P.J. WODEHOUSE

GOING HOME

Following long and highly el- cient service to the Colony in varlous capacities, hut principally as an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. P. P. J. Wodehouse, C. I. E., is to retire from the Hoog. kong Government Service on May 21, when he sails for Home.

A kinsman of the Earl of Kim- the barley and elder brother of well-known author, Mr. P. C. Wode- house, Mr. Wodehouse was born in Hongkong in 1887 and was taken to England shortly afterwards. He Joined the Government Service at the age of 10 years and has ocen pied many important and resp sible positions with credit during the 36 years that he has been with the Government.. On three separate ccasions he has been in charge of the Census of the Colony and has acted as Captain Superintendent of

per Police on several occasions, forming admirable work during the general strike and boycott in that capacity.

It was in 1919 that Mr. Wode house was made a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire

for services rendered during military operations.

Mr. Wodehouse is a keen football enthusinat and has taken consider able interest in the management of the game in Hongkong, being Vice-President of the Hongkong Football Association. In kin younger days, Mr. Wodehouse was

prominent hockey player.

He has the reputation of being one of the best speakers of Chinese in the Government Service and has also passed in Hindustani and Pin- jabi.

Well-liked by his colleagues and subordinates, Mr. Wodehouse has been one of the most popular, off- ears of the Force and is spoken of | by police officers in the highest of terms, whilst he is greatly liked al so in social circles,
