The principle Involved in pre- emtive bids is that they are made for the purpose of preventing the opponents from reaching a cor rect game-going declaration, ca- pecially when your hand contains n long trump suit and no defen- alve strength, therefore it turally follows that pre-emptive bida must be high enough to shut out the opponents.

While some authorities favour pre-emptive bids of three in major and four in a minor, most of them under the straight forc- ing system, agree that the original three bid, as outlined in previous article, has more value whon used in that manner than for pre-emptive purposes.

Pre-emptive bids should not be made on hands that contain de- fensive strength even though you have a long trump suit. It is bet- ter to start the bidding on those types of hands low in the hope of being doubled, especially when defensive enough have strength to atop the opponents from going game.
