MR. CHURCHILL IN HIS SCHOOL DAYS.
POLEMICS IN THE "HARROVIAN.”
When Mr. Winston Churchill was at Harrow, Mr. Amory was one of the Editors of the, "Harrovlan.”
The other evening, at the News- paper Makers' Banquet, the Editor revealed that he had often to use the blue pencil to consider- able purpose apon jhe contributions of the young Churchill, and that, even ao, in the end, authority itself had to step in and demand some softening of the contributor's style - style which already revealed dia- the bellingerency that has tinguished the writer in Inter yeare.
Recently Mr. Amery told 41 Press representative that in 1890 the Ilarrovian Churchill wrote. articles distinguished by the brillancy which is associated with the Rt. Hon. Winston Churchill, P. C.
A great deal of what he wrote, however, never saw the light of day, Mr. Amery made sure of that. Even what did appear proved a little too much for the authorities, and one day Churchill was sent for by the Headmaster.
"You must stop writing this nort of thing in the 'Harrovian." Chur- chill was deeply injured. "But, air in verything in the 'Barrovian" anonymous," he replied,

'The real sensation of the Junius Junior letters circled round the alleged inadequacy of the annual Assault at Arms in the gymnasium. To Churchill's Parthian shot is ap pened the ominous notice:
"We have omitled n portion of our correspondent's letter, which tomed to us to exceed the limits of fair criticism.-Eds., 'Harrovian.'" It all started in the "Harrovian" of December, 1891.
