The phenomenal fluctuations of the dollar was the cause attributed to the heavy increase in expendi ture and, doerense in Investmonta during the last year, at the annual meeting of the Union Waterboat Company, held yesterday,

To comply with the General Bonded Warehouse Regulations consigneer must have a Revenue Officer in attendance when damaged dutiable goods are examined.

The working account shows that 548,675 lons of water were sold as against 631,622 in 1930, the groased on or before the 20th April, 1932, revenue being $8,809.50 in excess of last year, which proves that the Company's earning power has not declined but our working expenses are $22,328 higher, mostly due to the slump in exchange. The main increase is in the Marine Insurance of our boats which cost $7,139 more than in the previous year on account of their higher value in Dollars due to low exchange. This has, however, readjusted itself by about 25 per cent. on account of appreciation in exchange, and thir saving will be reflected in this year's accounts.

Other items which show consi-

derable increaser are Coal, Fuel Oil and Wagen, but, I am glad to say the cont of Fuel Oil has since been, reduced, which will lower the working costs for 1932.

Investments have depreciated in sympathy with the fluctuations in exchange and stand at $37,967.50 less than inst year.

The fleet has been maintained in a high state of efficiency and dur- ing the year a new Water Boat was completed and put into commission, with a Gardner full Diesel Engine, and the latest up-to-date pumping equipment.

This makes 'n total of eight water boats, five of which are steam drives and one of these will be shortly sold making four Steam and three Motor Boats.
