Harris equalised Howe's goal with a great shol from close in ten, minutes from the start, and four or five minutes later, Strange Buked the lead for the Club, seor- ing from a seemingly impossible angle when Johnson ran out of his charge and failed to get huld of the ball << scramble.
Daris equalised bofore the in- terval in somewhat similar fush- ion. though he was directly in front of goal when Rodger was ob stracted by colleague, giving Davis a simple shot into an un- tenanted net.
The second half found the Bor- derers pressing stendily, with oc casional dangerous-looking bursts by the Club which seldom, how- ever, progressed boyond Channings and Mullane, the strong forces in the Borderers' defence. Chan- ings particularly carned high praise. Going from centre-half to full-back, his kicking was splendidly clean and accurate and his interceptions were capitally timed.
The forwards were neverthe- less, having à trying time against a determined Club defence in which flatwin, Foley and Strange were outstanding. Baldwin gave A great display against Davis and larris, emerging with success from a large proportion of his tuckles, while the amount of work he accomplished In covering his backs and lending himself to the attack was prodigious.
Strange always bobbed up in the right place at the critical moment. He got through a tremendous amount of work with marked judg ment, while Folay backed him up splendidly though it seemed to be his error of judgment which led to the second goal.
The third and winning goal de- | '• veloped on the right wing, from a long klek which caught the Club defence spreadeagled. Even 80, Davis seemed oltside when he re- calved the ball from Harris, though Jones, the actual scoror, was legi- timately placed when he took a pass from Davis, who had carried the ball down and slipped it neatly nt the right momant.
The Club carried on with pluck and persistency, but only live. minutes remained for play, and the Borderers concentrated on de- fonce, not being too earnest about keeping the ball in play.
The Club: compared favourably with their rivals in defence, but ware without any definito. : plan of campaign. The only wonkeness
