In February, born 1851, at Government flours, Trini- dud, and educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. His father, whom he succeeded in 1872, was the 3rd Lord Harris

and his mother a daughter of Archdeacon Cummings of Trini dad.

Both at Eton and at Oxford ho distinguished himself as a cricketer, his love of the game being intense. Then and in his Inter career he took infinite trouble over every detail of the aport, in the desire to get cricket played for its own sake as the finest of manly games. In 1875 he was made captain of the Kent team, and for many years, as one of the best cricketera of the period, brought honours to the county.

in 1880 he captained the Eng- lish team at the Oval in the first match ever played between Eng- Jand and Australia. lie was afterwards made a trustee and president of the M.C.C. and be came one of the most noteworthy figures at Lord's.
