HONGKONG REPRESENTA- TIVES GOING TO CANTON.
A happy function took place at the II.K. Univeralty pavillon át Pokfulam yesterday afternoon when the Uni- veraity Union gave a tea party, in honour of the athletes who left for Canton this morning to partici pate in the Inter-University Athletic Moet, which will bo held at the Lingnan University on March 26 and
28.
Mr. N. K. Law, Chairman of the University Union, presided, among those present being Bir William Hornell, C.I.E, Vice-Chancellor, and Mr. W. B. Finnigan, Registrar.
Speaking on behalf of the Union, Mr. Law tendered his best winhos to the athletes and expressed his whole- hearted support. He was sure that they would do themselves justice in Canton, where they would be meeting the Lingnan University and the Sun Yat Sen University athletes.
Mr. K. J. Gan, the Captain of thý team, thanked the Union for the la- terest it had taken in them and fort the party, which all tho athletes appreciated vory much. He could nut guarantee that the team would bring back tho flog, which they bad won the previous year with so much effort, but he could guarantee that they would, to the best of their abilliy, defend the honour and good name of the Hongkong University and the Union. If they could not bring, tuck the flag, it would not be for want of trying.
With regard to the lady under- graduates, he had one advice to give, and that was to give the words "i can't a holiday. He felt sure that they would do their best in Canton.
The speaker reminded the athletes that a contest was not won by any one mun. When they reached Can- ton, they would have show n united front, and it was the team spirit which counted rhast..
Sir William Hornel! also spoke, wishing the team the best of luck. He announced he would be going up Lo Canton with them and would be present at the moet. He could not imagine how they could be beaten, but if they were, he would ask them to take it like good sportsmen. "The
best skle always wins," he concluded.
The function ended with the gather- ing singing the Union Hong.
Tennis Fixtures.
The Hongkong University athletes will be leaving Hongkong this mor ning for the Inter-Varsity meet t be held at Canton on Saturday and Monday next, Notable among the visitors will be the University tennis team who are to play a series matches with Canton clubs.

BONDA & AKIYAMA SCRATCH TO CHINESE,
He Ka-inu and Yew Man-kit, the Interport combination, received a walk-over from Akiyama and Honda, the Japanese first string in the opon doubles championship yesterday, Aklyama having departed from the Colony. This places the Chinese Recreation Club pair in the quarter Onnis.
Lee Wai-tong and Luk Ding- chrong, one of the most brilllast of the youngue pales in the tournament, accomplished another excellent per- formance in dingosing of. Remedios und Ribeiro, the leading Portuguese representatives, in straight sets, and thus qualify to meet Ho Ka-lau and Yew Man-kit, their compatriots.
This promises to be one of the must Interesting and exclting en counters in the quarter finals, with the issue very doubtful to anticipate with any certainty.
Barros and Remedios, another Club de Recreio pair advanced to the fourth round at the expense of Silva and Sousa, winning with case at 0-3, 6-3.
