Report and Accounts. Chairman-The next business is to pass the Report and Accounts for 1931. will call upon the Chairman of the Council to address you on the aubject.
Mr. Hll (Chairman of Council) : Mr. Chairman and Gentlemen,
com-
The Municipal Report and Ac- counts have been in your hands for the prescribed period of fourteen ddys and require but little ment from me. I would, however, like to make a few additional re- marks in connexion with the twelve months under review.
In connexion with Police matters I have much pleasure in stating that your Council have had close co-operation and assistance from the City Police.
The Waterworks were called n to supply more water than for the previous year and the quality was maintained at its usual high standard of purity, as will be noted from the Medical Officer of Health's report. The plant has been maintained in good repair and condition.
There was no large expenditure in connexion with the Public Works Department. Maintenance work only was dealt with but the Nura- Ing Home was entirely redecorated and all furniture and fittings conditioned. The Municipal Nurs ing Home, bad efficiently dealt with all cases brought in, and thanks are due to Dr. Lancaster, the Medical Officer of Health. The Jest to Ratepayers amounted tu $4,771.65 against $1,795.00

I should like to take this oppor tunity of placing on record that the Oficers and Staff of the Council discharged their duties to entire satisfaction throughout the year. I now have pleasure in pro- posing the adoption of the Report and Accounts for 1981 as present-

After this proposal has been seconded I shall be glad to answer any questions to the best of my nbility.
to
Mr. Knoll:I would like second that proposal.
Chairman:-Ina anybody any questions to put to the Chairman of the Council?
Property Revaluation. Mr. Quin-Mr. Chaleman, Under the heading "Fire Insur-
ance" I see that the actual ex- penace for 1930 were $872.50. The ketuni expenses for 1931 were the same, and it is budgeted for the same amount for next year. May I ask whether that means that in spite of the fall in the value of the Hongtong dollar, the Insured value of the properties, has not been re- vised?
Mr. Hill:-Yes.
Mr. Quin:-If no i should like to recommend that the values of
Comell property be revised on the present value of the dollar, at 1/6. It seems to me unwise to have your property under-insured.
Mr. Knott:-Was the insurance amount $700 in 19307
Mr. Quin-No $872.50, the same as for, the past two years,
Mr. Knott-In 1930 the dollar was round about 2/-.
well Mr. Quin: It is wol as covered now as when the dollar was at 2/-.
Mr. Knott: You might take into account a certain amount of depreciation in the value of The property.
Mr. Quin-I do not think firma take that into consideration. I think it wise to be on the right | aide.
Chairman:-Perhaps it can be left as a point to be conaldered by the incoming Council?
Left to Council,
Mr. Hill:-Would you like to put this up as a proposal or will you leave it to the incuming Coon- ci17
Mr. Quin:--Unless somebody is against it I would like to hear the view of the meeting.
Mr. Campbell:-Would it not bei a good thing to have the property revalued?
Do
Mr. Quin. It would cost money. Mr. Hill:What is your idea? you suggest that it be left to the incoming Council or would you like to bring it forward as a pro- pasal 7
Mr. Quin: should like to hring it forward as a proposal.
Mr. Campbell:I should like to second Mr. Quin's proposal.
Mr.
-You should have given notice.
Mr. Quin-1 shall leave it then to the incoming Council.
The resolution was then put to the meeting and carried.
