EFFECT.
According to the official returns compiled by the Statistical Branch of the Imports & Exports De- partment, the trade of the Colony suffered a relapse in the month of January, the total value of imports amounting to $54 milliona (the lowest Ggure since October 1930). while exporta tolalled $38.3 millions (the lowest Azure since Febranry the short month of 1931).
As compared with January of last year imports declined by 876) millions, while exports fell $9.7 millions.
Part of the declines in the trade of the Colony during January was due to the Chinese boycott of Inmanere goods which continued with incrensing intensity, the total imports from Jatan amounting in
$1.3 millions as this
compared January with $5.2 millions in 1981: almon goods declining by millions and fondstuffs by $1.9 $1.1 millions.
