OUR BRITISH CROSSWORDS.
The culmination of the Indefatigablo work the Honorary Secretary (Mr. C. P. F. Janics) and members of the Executive Committee of the
Hong. kong Lawn Tennis Association was nchloved last evening, when an 01. Lrnordinary general meeting of the LTA. agreed to resolutions for the incorporation of the Association, the lemulig of a debenture list and the acquiring of a ground for the pur. pose of staging local championship, Interport, exhibition and other coni- petitive tennis matches.
The President (Mr. R. E. Lindsell} was in the chair, in his introductory remarks said the purpose of the meeting had been made very clear by the nutfer which had been circulated to all members. He thought It had been apparent for some time past that a krge number of people interested in the development of lawn tennis in the Colony were of the spicion that a strong governing bady should manage the open eventa sush ne Interpart, exhibition and cham. pionship matchen.
Uniformity Necessary.
Under the present system there were five different open champion- hi all managed and run most ex

a smal matter, but it slowed there was a lack of uniformity of the clubs running the different championships.
He thought he could say that the LTA, enald never achieve the reaf predominaner as a governing body in
Colony unless it had a ground on which to pass the important com- petitive and exhibition matches.
Position In England.
In England, the Lawn Tennis As- auciation had no ground of its own. ahl was quhe an Independent entity from that of the All-England Lawn Tennis Club. In Englund, of course, conditions were poniewhal different
to what existed in Hongkong, yet the L.T.A. End aeldeved a position such as that occupied by the M.C.C. in re gard to Cricket and St. Andrew's with regard to Golf. He thought that neither Ceylon nor Malaya As- Belations had grounds of their own. while Shanghai had one stand court in the grounds of the French Club, by arrangement with that club.

He was sure that the acquiring of a ground by the Hongkong L.T.A. would not only help the Association but would be of great beneßt in the players. The increasing popularity of the game in Hongkong and the need of more courts Was growing almost daily. Unlike some of the prophets, he was inclined to think that the City of Vietoria would Th mula for many years to come the hub of the Colony, and were it possible to obtain a ground on the Island in some central position it would be uns wise to look further. But the open spaces on that side of the harur were all occupied and they had had to Jouk further afield. Thanks to the indefatigable work of the Secretary and the Excentive Committee, a piece of land in Chatham Roul, Kowloon, close to the children's recreation ground, had been discovered, and they Mr. K.
