TO-DAY'S RECIPE.

A Birthday Cake.

Hall-pound flour, lb. rice flour, | 14 ozɛ, butter or margarine, † ten- spoonful vanilla, † lb. mugar, { }> | mixed peol, † 16. soodless raisinn, o eggs, 1 teaspoonful baking power, white icing.

Put the buttor and sugar into a warm basin, and beat them to a erenin with a wooden spoon. Slued the peol finety, mix it with the taisins and a little of the dry flour.

And the rest of the flour and the rice flour to the creamed butter and sugar, and alternatoly with the ogga.

Bent well and add a little milk if too stiff. Flavour with vanilla and stir in the fruit nud baking power. Bake the mixture in two sizes sinal- ler than the other. When the cakes are cooked and cool, cut them lovel on the top and place one on the Lop of the other, fixing them to- gather with a little of the icing.

Icing.

Put 14 lb. sieved icing sugar into a Lasin and add to it I dessertspoonful lemon juice and enough white of egg to moiston.. Beat well, proad thin layer over the cake and allow this to harden and keep in the crumbs. Then spread on a second coating of icing, roughen it over with a fork, and leave to wet. Decorate the cake with artificial flowers or leaves, with candles, crystallised fruits OT Awcets, According to faney.
