A PRACTICAL HINT.
Re-Finishing a Table- 'Top.
If you have an unsatisfactory finish on a table which is cnally blemished by hot dishes, and you wish to make it absolutely imper- vious to blemishes from heat or water, there are two ways to re- finish it. If the table
tog
is made of unvencered solid wood, it may be given a dull Jinseed of finish. But if it is veneered, It should he varnished with the best quality waterproof varnish obtainable. and then if you do not care for the glossy finish, this may be rubbed down.
Before applying either finish. remove the one already on the table with a strong washing soda a commercial cloth solution. or moistened with benzine or turnen. tine, whichever is Indicated on the label of the paint remover, and rub the table vigorously, You will have to rub your wood down of the stain--whleh As long as any probably is not waterproof--comes off on the cloth.
When this has been done, and if you want to restor, the original colour, put on a conting of water- proof sinin, applled according to the directions supplied by the manufacturer.
After this has been dried, the onveneered table should be rubbed with boiled linseed oil. The build-
up of an oil finish is an endurance teat, for it cannot be completed in a short time. The best remilts are obtained by add ins more oil and rubbing once n day for two or three months, and finally finishing with beeswax. This will give you a very beautiful finish, and your worries about white marks will be over,

Military Note Seen in Winter · Mode.
}
[By Joan Savoy]
The mode has turned military as well as historic. To prove the point there's this cloth streat suit with "epaulet" shoulders and yoke of Persian lamb that suggests the dashing uniform of a muslen! comedy general.
To achieve the epaulet effect the collar, yoke and sleeve caps of fur are cut in one piece. This gives width at the shouldera-a?}_ important feature of the new silhouette because it makes the walatting appear smaller.
The material used for the suit is black acnta cloth. Intricate seaming on the lower part of the coat corresponds with the geometric outline of a section set into the skirt at the right side front. The sleeves, which are cut rather loose, are pleated into a tight wrist band. They have no cults.
The cont closes on the left side and is held the neck by a bow of the suit material. The belt is leather with a modernistic buckle. Worn with the costume is a binck felt Ent fifting the head closely. It has a feather ornament over the le't car and stoping backward.
The epaulet effect has been introduced in dresses and blouses as well as conta. Sometimes it is accomplished by bralding or embroidery.
