OFFICIAL CEREMONY.

The Aberdeen Valley Water Scheme was officially opened yes. terday by His Excellency the Governor, Sir William Peel for the service of the Colony.

A big crowd of prominent; citizens and officials was present at the dam, which is about half way between Wanchai Gap and Aber deen. His Excellency and Lady Peel arrived about 4 p.m., and after inspecting the reservoir, con- gratulated the engineers respon- nible, Mesara. R. Henderson, W. Woodward. F. J. T. Locke, J. C. Campbell, J. A. Kinnard and S. R. Jones,

Entering the tower built in the centre of the dam bridge, His Ex-1 cellency swung the wheels round which opened the outlet pipes, and i caused the water to rush down to the Alter bedn. At the same time he opened another outlet which caused a stream of water to shoot ut on to the dried bed of the old stream.

Leaving the damn bridge, Ilis Excellency was introduced to the executive officers of the Depart- ment.
