A district watchman's alertness was responsible for the arrest of a man who was charged before Mr Fraser at the Kowloon Magis- tracy this morning with pleking the packet of a passenger on the Yaumati ferry yesterday.

Divisional Inspector Clark, who prosecuted, said a district watch- man was travelling on the ferry when he noticed the defendant looking into the pockets of some of the passengers, and finally caught him in the net of extract. ing two $5 notes from a pocket of the complainant.

Defendant had several previous convictions against him, having been banished far ten years in 1916. He returned to Hongkong in 1926 and since then had had a clear record.

His Worship sentenced him to three months' hard labour.
