Public Works Department:---Special Expenditure. Consulting Engineers fee in ennnection with tele autographic plant $1,297.

The sum of 60 guinean is asked to meet the fee of Messrs. Preece, Cardew and Rider. Consulting Engineera who carried out considerable investigation. on behalf of this Government in the various types of Facsimile apparatus in connection with a proposal to instal tele-uiographie plant in Hongkong. The proposal is now in abeyance.

Charitable Services:-Passages and Relief of Destitutes $HOO.

The unexpended balance on this vote is now only $700. A liability of $820 has been incurred in repatriating destitutes. $800 is required to sup plement the vote and for the ro mainder of the year.

Botanical and Forestry Depart ment:Upkeep of Car. General up- keep of departinental car $200.

The car was first used in April. 1930, and up to the time of prepára. tion of the 1031 Estimates it was not possible to verify by experience the original estimate of the cost of up- keep. This has proved to be higher

than was anticipated.

A kum of $9,800 is requested to purchase a six cyclinder Thornycroft motor chassis, capable of carrying 20 to 30 men for emorgency work in Kowicon. The present prisoners van in use in Kowloon, during the recent troubles, was found to be entirely un- very slow, too small and generally not suited for emergency unit work, being the type required for such work. A high powered machine capable, if necessary, of hill climbing in the New Territorien la urgently required, and delivery of such a machine may be obtained at once from Messrs. Thorny. croft and Co., Ltd. The amount re- quired is made up as follows:--Six cylinder chassia £500 @ ex. 1/2d.
