Russell, President of the Hongkong Society for the Pre- vention of Cruelty to Animals, at yesterday's meeting of the Rotary Club, which was held at Messrs. Lane Crawford's restaurant, under the Chairmanship of the Hon. Mr.

There was a remarkable finish to the Open Lawn Bowls Championship lie between J. C. Went and H. Hamp- ton, which the former won yesterday, West, on the Craigengower groen. after being two down, with Hampton needing only one shot for game, eap- tured the 20th head with a brillant abot in semi-darkness.

Ianipton laid n short wood and blocked with a perfect second: but Weat succeeded in rouruling the block, and resting Hampton's shot. On the Inst head, West had matters prac tically all his own way, and scoring two, won by the odd point.

Hampton was also responsible for a fine recovery, being 17-8 down on the 16th, but a brilliant three on the 21st, when West was already lying three shots which would have given him game, allowed Hampton to draw level and subsequently to assume the lead. It was a match full of flue- tunting fortunes, though the bowling did not reach the standard generally associated with these two players.
