CLEARED BY HER FINGERPRINTS.

WOMAN MISTAKEN FOR A CRIMHNÁL.

A woman who gave evidence in a case at the Old Balley against a police constable, whom she alleged assaulted her, emphatically denied that she was charged with a man at Willesden four years ago with stealing a ring, and to prove that her statement was true she cor sented to have her fingerprints taken.

This was done by an officer of Scotland Yard, and it was shown that she was not the woman wh was charged at Willesden.

Quite clearly, said Mr. Eastwood, a police officer had made a mistake. and a genuine mistake.

"He and unreservedly with- draw the suggestion," he added.

Judge Gregory: It only shows how mistakes may happen. Had it not been for the woman's finger- prints being taken, she might have. gone away under the grave odium of having been convicted.
