tainty, is necessary to demonstrate to the whole world the determination of the British people to stand by each other in times of national difficulty. Thus Mr. Ramsay MacDonald in the course of his Election Manifesto issued last night.

He appealed for the subordination of party politics to national înterests, declaring the absolute necessity of placing the nation's support of Government. policy beyond a doubt. These were exceptional times, demanding exceptional treatment, and he asked for a free hand for the National Government to meet changing conditions as they arise.

Meanwhile it is reported in official quarters in Paris that Britain is contem- plating the stabilisation of the nound at 100 francs as soon as possible after the election.
