Evidence was given by Mr. G. F. Taylor, acting werks manager of the Company, that when returning from Macao on board the a. Sui Tal August 13, he saw the flok Un in a part of the harbour where it had no business to be, and ho saw something handed over from The Huk Un to an
unknown Chinese launch. He suspected the Company's coal was being stolen but, owing to pressure of work and the Company's launebes being rally engaged owing so a typhoon, the crew were not questioned until the 18th, when all the crew were dismissed summarily.

In submitting that he had case to answer, Mr. Rendali said the reason the Poxswain engineer were given for being dismissed was that they had been selling the Company's coal, and The evidence of Mr. Taylor was that be bad merely a suspicion that something was passed and that it

All that Mr. Taylor eould say | was that at the enquiry there were direct denials by the coxswain and engineer, but judging by the coxswain's looks, and what he said afterwards, "Excuse me; this is the first time," Mr. Taylor thought the coxswain was guilty. Mr. Rendall said that was, in fact, the first time that anything had been alleged againal the roxswain, and his remark could not therefore be taken as an admission of guilt.. The engineer denied it and thei excuse made was that he was listening outside and was prepared; for everything.
