In every girl's mind there is a distinction between
a format and an informal occasion. But just what
that difference is is another matter.

Before dressing for any occasion, remember always better to err on the side of being dressed nat quite so formally as the rest, rather than more for- mally.
If you are going to an afternoon tea or some root garden, beach clul, country clubs or other "cocktail hour event, you will nerd a beautifully made but rather simple appearing frock, preferably with tiny slutt streves.
tfit is dimser you are going to, perhaps on a yout garden or the town's start resort club, you must have a jacket enstune this year. The jacket should match your frock, which should be sum mery to the nth degree. Your accessories should be mildly informal. Pumps, a pretty purse, short pull-on gloves, no jewelry to speak of. but perhaps a flower,
When it is a brilliant evening gathering which you attend, your escort is apt to blossoms out in leag-tail coat and formal white tie. white vest and gardenia in his battankole. Then you, of course, mus! rise to the occasion with a formal evening gown of decollette.
1. for formal evenings.
For the very formal occasion you will need a strictly formal evening ROWL This one is a charming new summery affair, white flowers against a pale blue background, with aqua-marine blue centers in the new stuched, chilson that is ravisling.
The long, tight line of this gown flares just at knee lieight to give rippling fullness about the feet. The neck is cut very low in the back and has jewelled shoulder straps and a diamond clip at one side of the neckline.
With this you will need very formal dancing sandals, with high heels and of course beautifully made with cut-out design and silver pipings. You should have a huge chilton handkerchiel, prefer ably in white, with a light blue design. Your purse should be a formal fittle evening gadget, a beaded or tucked chiffon envelope purse.
It is not just the costume, you see, but all of your acces sonics, that change for the occasion. For there is an etiquet in clothes now that demands that you know exactly what to wear on each occasion, if you would have the world know. you as an essentially correct, well-dressed person. For each occasion there is a "just righ" harmony to the puremble, and the well-dressed woman achieves it.

11. for the dinner party.
. dining out is lots more fuit when you have a crepe de chine bag, calf slippers' with cut-out design, and flat Ivory beads with a ribbon bow.
When it is a dinner party you are attending and all the men aro looking their best in Tuxedos, you will need a little jacket to top your gown, to make of it a costume informal enough for dinner at the best place in town.
This one has its printed chiffon jacket of its own material, with sleeves seven-eighths long that do not quite meet the short gloves You may wear. White satin pumps are quite the foolgear, and the purse of finely beaded loveliness is a pretty touch. The flower is of chiffon, too, in white.
I. dinner costume accessories,
You may change your dinner costume very successfully by merely varying your accessories. Instead of the beaded bag choose an in- formal crepe de chine one with a blue design, and a pristal or ivory handle. Calf slippers with a charming cut-out design will keep you stepping in just as interesting a path. When you fasten some flat ivory beads around your neck and tie them with a blue ribbon, there isn't any doubt but that you are a credit to the man who brought you, to the party.
IV. more formal accessories.
For formal evening parties, when you want to be gay and glam orous, and dignified, too, accessories have a lot to say about the way in which you are going to score. This chiffon handkerchief with its applique design in white and hydrangea blue knows a thing or two about charm. Strapped evening slippers, which may be secured in either crepe de chine or satin, are toring the fashion line. Small white flowers are a pleasing decorative touch that is just formal enough.
V. garb for tea-time,
For the afternoon party, for tea or for cool drinks atop a city roof, in the Casino, on the country club. veranda, you will want a simple looking but exquisitely cut frock, with accessories the last word. Such a one, one that any man' in business suit will be de lighted to walk beside, is a lighter-than-navy blue georgette, with accordion pleated ruffles at the hipline, coller and sleeves.
A white kid belt girdles it. Pul-on white gloves of rather short length and one of the necklaces of twisted blue and white amall beads are suited to it.
The purse is a darker blue, no are the one-strap, conservative sandals, and the chic milan hat, with its attractive one-sided bil,
