THE optimistic opinion that the London Conference will succeed in salving Germany in her financial difficulties was telephoned from Paris to Washington to-night by Mr. H. L. Stimson, the Secretary of State, to his chief assistant, Mr. W. R. Castle.
Me. Castle immediately telephoned the information to President Hoover at his summer camp in the Rapidus, and the message has crented a very cheerful impression in Washington official circles,

THAT much overworked word "sensational" may well be employed to describe Britain's victory over the United States in the Davis Cup Inter-zone Final in Paris yesterday. The reverse singles brought "Bunny" Austin and Fred Perry in opposition to their particular conquerors in the Wimbledon tournament, and it seemed that only a miracle could avert a British defeat.
Yet the miracle occurred. It was made possible by Austin, who beat Frank Shields, the American crack, in straight sets!--Perry-went on the court-in-do-or-die- spirit which has characterised the play of these British heroes in their many games this year, and after a terrific gruelling second set which went to eighteen game, he took the sting out of the Wimbledon champion, Sydney Wood, and with purposeful and adventurous play, outplayed him in the next two.
