'POLITICS IN THE PHILIPPINES.

OPPOSING PARTIES CLASH AT ELECTIONS.

Manila, June 3. Although yesterday's general elections in the Philippine Islanda are described as the most peaceful and orderly in many years dis patches arriving here to-day told of several clashes.

At Cagayan there was one fatal stabbing. On the outskirts of Manin GOO Nacionalistas and Democratas engaged in a free-for- all fight. Several persons were Injured but there were no deaths in the rioting.

There were a few other minor disturbances.

All was quiet in Manila. The

elections in the capital were the most orderly in many years.

In most places the Nacionalista or majority party, is maintaining its strength. The only real ipse! here is the apparent defent of Dr. Pedro GB. Dommernda member of the Philippines home of represents tives and an outstanding leader in the Democrata party.

Dr. Gill running in third place in the Intest returns. Running jahead of him in competition with the Nacionalista candidate is Sr. Alfonso Memloza, a radical can- didate.

The voters irnoped to the polls yesterday to elect insular, pro- vincial and municipal officials. Most of the voters are Pilipinos although American citizens were privileged The Steamship, io vote if they so desired. Eleven Senators are being elect- ed for six-year terma and Ko Re- presentatives are being elected for terms of three years each.
