CIRCUS.
EXCITING HUNT IN CORNISH
TOWN.
Four full-grown Hons escaped From a tent into the open during circus performanço at Helaton. Cornwall, recently.
One of the lions leapt upon a tethered pony, but ran on again without hurting it, and jumped over a park seat on which a woman was sitting. It then sprang into a lake, and remained in the water until the proprietor of the.elreus
assoed it.
The other three long were easily went straight captured. They
from the circus tent into other en- closures.
One entered the horse tent, where attendants secured it before the horses stampeded; and the ather two ran into a shed, the door of which was at once closed he hind them.
Captain Pinder said, in an in- terview: "I cannot understand how the escape occurred. The en- closure is new, and we find nothing broken. I can only conclude that, as the arena was on sloping ground, one of the chains slipped.
In Six Feet of Water. "The lion that went to the lake: was in six feet of water when I found him. I roped him, but ho was excited by liberty and became Isidr nasty and made at me. stepped, and he tried to jump a wall, but as I was still holding the rope dragged him, so that he be came jammed between the wall and
tree.
"get the rope round bis, nerk and forepaws, and then he was al
most helpless, so that we were able in capture him.
Thess lions are in their Aft year, and fully grown. They have been accustomed to human beings ince they were two months old. and there was no danger in their liberty, if they saw human beings They would turn away from them. although they might attack horses."
