Chinese Proposal at International Chamber of Commerce Accepted.

INSTRUCTION TO DR. C. €. WU.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT).

Shanghai, May 12. It is learned that the National Government is communicating with Dr. C. C. Wu, the Chinese Minister in Washington, instructing him to convene a world silver conference with the assistance of Japanese and other representatives. The announcement follows upon the enthusiastic reception given to the proposals of the Chinese delegates to the International Chamber of Commerce urging the Conference to bring about an immediate international conference to find measures to stabilize the price of silver.

The Chinese delegation's memorandum said that the im→ portance of action to stabilize the price of silver arose not from any concern for the interests of silver producers, or of any single country, but was due to the urgent need to secure conditions conducive to a revival of international trade. The object of an international conference such as the delegation proposed would be to discover a practical method for stabiliz ing silver.

Two probable courses were suggested: Firstly, to adjust the production and sale of new silver and the marketing of existing stocks and, secondly, to stimulate new demands for, silver.
