ANNUAL MEETING OF THE LT.A.

HARD COURTS TENNIS.

NEED FOR A GROUND

·EMPHASISED,

Suggestions for a now constitution of the Hongkong Tennis League and for arranging the league programmes to start July, instead of in May as heretofore, were put forward for consideration by the Council of the HK, Lawn Teania Association, at last evening's annual meeting. The Pre- silent (Mr. I. E. Lindsoll) sald both would receive the prompt attention

of the Council.

HUGHES AND BOUSSUS TO MEET IN, FINAL

London, Apr. 30. An Englishman and a Frenchmani will meet in the final of the British hard courts tennis championship.

BILLIARDS CONTEST.

ros, or THE MEDWAY MEET KOWLOON POLICE.

In proposing the adoption of the report and accounts. Mr. Lindsell sald that he thought the report told them fully of what had been nehloved by the Association In the past year, They were now a proper constitution, which find been drawn up on similar nes to those of the Tientsin and Shanghai Associations, and modelled to a certain extent on the constitution of the All-England L. T. A. The con- stitution had not been in force suf- ficiently long to any whether it cover el all dieulties but they had already discovered ono or two loopholes, which they hoped pul right at an extraordinary general meeting which would be called. It had given them very much plea. sure to entertain quite a number of prominent visitors, and in that con- texion he would like them to know that the well-known British player, Smith Mr. E. D. Andrews had arrived that Tash day, and they hoped to stage exhibi- Almond tlon matches on the stand court of Southern the Hongkong Cricket Club in the Northwood course of the next week. He would

to

...

He did not think the report did quita enough Justice to the U.S.R.C., which had followed the example of other clubs in the Coinny, and had promoted, under the auspices of the LT.A., an Open Ladies Doubles Championship. It was very successful, and had been ably managed in every way by the U.S.R.C.

Regarding the accounts, he did not think they could regard the position unsatisfactory, despite the

nx

fact that they finished up with

a

amall debit balance.

A billiarda match was played at the Water Police Station, Kowloon, Inst night, between the Petty Officers of EI.M.S. Medway and the Kowloon Police, resulting as follows:

The Officer.

The following officers were then elected:

President, Mr. R. E. Lindacil; Vice- President, Mr. M. K. Lo; lion, Secre- tary, Mr. C. P. F. James; Ilon. Tren- Auror, Mr. D. S. Green: Hon. League Secretary, Mr. S. A. Gray; Exceative, Messrs. C. F. Lee, R. M. Henderson, Ile Kn-lau and S. A. Nunjahn,

The suggestion was brought for- ward by Mr. S. A. Gray that the B. and C. Divisions, If numbering the same as last year, be split up into sections, so that it would not be nece sary for the Clubs to play twice in the one week. At the clone of the programme, the leaders of each sec tion would play off for the title of the Divizion, with the losers to be regarded as runners-up.

Consequent upon this, Mr. II. J. Armstrong suggested that in view of May and June being wet months, the League programme would not start until July, thus enabling the later tennis to be played in the cooler weather.

Roth proposals were put forward to the Counell for consideration.

The Ground Question, .

The meeting also recorded their ap proval of the proposal by Mr. Arm- strong that Government should approached to do all that was possible to allocate to the Association a, pleen of ground which the LT.A, could for the staging of matches.

The meeting terminated with thanks to the President for his valuable work during the past year.
