ROPE BREAKS IN DARING BID FOR LIBERTY.
FALLS FORTY FEET.
AF
FTER BREAKING out of his cell and temporarily gaining the roof of a prison block, a long-term prisoner at Victoria Gaol was killed last night in a daring attempt to gain the street by means of an improvised rope, which snapped under the strain of his weight. The convict fell some forty feet to the compound of the gaol and was killed instantly.
This fatal bid for liberty was made round about 9.30 p.m. in pitch darkness, the man having previously made a rope constructed of rags, and strips torn from his own clothing, it is believed,”

A crowded and excited House of Commons greeted Mr. Stanley Baldwin · this afternoon when he rose 'to to move a vote of censure on the Government for its failure to fulfil its élection pledges in regard to uneti- ployment.

The division is expected to be particularly critical owing to the uncertain altitude of many Liberal members. It is generally expect- ed that the motion will be defont- ed but only by a narrow margin. Vigorous Attack.
