An unprecedented situation was suggested likely at the annual celebrations of St. George's Day in Hongkong this year, when Mr. E. Cock, the newly elected President of the local Society of St. George. addressing members at the annual general meeting yesterday, men- tioned that there was no English Regiment resident in the Colony at the present time.

Important alterations to rules were also agreed to at a special meeting which followed, by which the Society is now in the position to appoint a paid Secretary-Tren- surer in the place of Mr. P. S. Considy and Mr. C. A. L. Plummer who signified the impossibility of again assuming the offices for an- other year.

I am pleased to be able to re- port the 1981 Ball will also show a surplus of some $300 to $400, despite the fact we made no in crease in the charge for tickets, and at the same time had to face increased coats, and also pay for a certain amount of new gear. This satisfactory state of affairs is duo to the fact members supported the Ball in such large numbers.
