MR. EZECHIEL'S SPEECH AT KUALA LUMPUR.

CURRENCY STABILITY HELD TO BE PRIME NECESSITY.

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT).

r

THE MOST desirable character of a currency is its THE

stability, said Mr. P. H. Ezechiel, a member of the Currency Mission appointed by the Colonial Office to enquire into Hongkong's currency problems, in the course of a speech at Kuala Lumpur yesterday, a special report of which has been obtained by the "Telegraph" from our Singapore correspondent.

The remark is assumed to indicate a predisposition on the part of the Mission to advocate the placing of the Colony's currency on a gold standard, and pro- bability of the closest possible examination of this solu- tion of our problems as its main task.
