THE A. A. ANNUAL MEETING.
to say that the pilfering of radiator CONSIGNEES' NOTICE. caps, etc., has been non-existent,
as far as we know, from Membors' | BERVICES CONTRACTUELS DES cara. This I think is due chiefly: MESSAGERIES MARITIMES, to the fact that the Association's (Continued from Page 2.)
patrols are over on the watch to outside the city area they are well guard Members' cars and I would The Steamship, maintained. The new roclamation urgo all members to carry the Aa- suciation's badge on their cars as in the Eastern District is a great advantage to the motoring public it is sure protection-Patrols have and the foresight of the Govern-special instructions to care ment in providing for 100-foot wide such cars, streeta running the whole, length of the reclamation is most com- mandable.
The Vehicular Ferry.
I am sure I am expected to say something about our ferry service for cars across the harbour. The prosent ferry service began in July 1923 which is 71⁄2 years ago. I am glad to say there will be no need refer much longer to the presont ferry service which as you are all aware will shortly be converted into a service which will be much more in keeping with the obvious requirements of thin Colony and its opposite peninsula. I am informed that this should be an accomplished fact in about 15 months from now. I understand also that tonders for building the Ferries have not yet, but will very shortly, bo invited. I trust the Government will take a long view and ask for ferries of Buch alze
as will provide for suf- ficient space for a number of cars as I feel sure that once easy transit communication is established be- tween the island and the mainland
there will be a great increase of
cars, motor lorries and commercial vans desiring to use theno ferries. So that the cost of transit may be kept as low as possible I see no rea son why passenger accommodation should not be provided for, on the Ines of the Ferries running be- tween New York City and New Jeracy and San Francisco and Onk land.
The accommodation on the pre- sent passenger Ferry Services across the harbour is getting more and more congested and without taking not too long a view it is obvious that more passenger facili- ties will very soon be required.
We must be grateful to the Hongkong & Kowloon Wharf & Go- down Company, fad., for the public benefit extended during the past 71⁄21⁄2 years which I believe has not been a paying proposition.
Your Committee during the past year endeavoured to assist your Members by issuing books of tickets enabling them to cross and re-cross the harbour at half the total cost, which although perhaps not quite an economically sound proposition it seemed to your Committee that the funds of the Association were Bufetent to allow this privilege.
