SUCCESSFUL EVENT AT PENINSULA.
A MERRY CROWD.
The Peninsula Hotel adopted Irlah garb fast night, when the recently-formed St. Patrick's Soclety held its first ball in honour of its patron saint.
Among the Colony's prominent citizens whe were presant were H.E. the Governor, Sir William Poel, Vice-Admiral Sir Howard and Lad Kolly. Major General Sandilands, Vico-Admiral B. Horr and Commodore and Mrs. Walker. party His Excellency and arrived shortly before 10 p.m. and were met by Col. Myles and Mr. L. N. Murphy, who conducted them to the ball room where the colleens presented a shamrock to Lady Peel.

Sub-Committees were co-opted. and "That's how we beat the Favourite," and all who attended the last meeting of the Hongkong Jockey Club will, realise what we were up against, Time was limited, thusinsm great, and the precepts of the couplet "The best way to lengthen the day, is to borrow a bit from the night" were strained to breaking point.
